Grand Raggidy Roller Derby: Hard Hits, Big Hearts, and 20 Years of Local Pride

Looking for a night out that’s full of energy, excitement, and community spirit? Step into the world of Grand Raggidy Roller Derby, Grand Rapids’ very own hard-hitting, fast-skating roller derby league. Whether you’re a longtime fan or brand new to the sport, their games (known as “bouts”) are a thrilling mix of athleticism, strategy, and good old-fashioned fun.

Who is Grand Raggidy Roller Derby?

Founded in 2005, Grand Raggidy is one of the original roller derby leagues in the Midwest and has built a reputation for toughness on the track and inclusivity off it. They’re members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), competing against teams from across the country. But beyond the competition, Grand Raggidy is deeply rooted in West Michigan.

Next Home Bout: September 20

This year is extra special—Grand Raggidy Roller Derby is celebrating their 20-year anniversary! You won’t want to miss their next home bout on September 20, 2025.  Expect an electric atmosphere and a night to remember as they take on Central Michigan Mayhem and then stay to watch the Back to Skool mixed scrimmage.  Tamales Plus food truck will be on site providing home made Mexican food.

What to Expect at a Bout

A roller derby bout isn’t your typical sporting event—it’s a high-energy spectacle. You’ll see skaters flying around the track, blocking, juking, and sprinting to score points while the crowd cheers them on. Between jams, you’ll get music, entertainment, and plenty of chances to join in the fun. Families, friends, and die-hard derby fans alike come together to support the team and enjoy the action.

More Than Just a Sport

Grand Raggidy Roller Derby is more than what happens on the track. It’s a community-driven, volunteer-powered league that promotes empowerment, athleticism, and camaraderie. Skaters, referees, and volunteers dedicate their time to building a supportive environment where everyone has a place. They also give back by partnering with local charities and nonprofits throughout the season.  For the September 20th bout they are holding a Back to School, Back to Giving donation drive for Grand Rapids Educators.
